Weather in November

Enjoy our warm African summer!  Over much of South Africa, summer (mid-October to mid-February) is characterised by hot, sunny weather - often with afternoon thunderstorms that clear quickly, leaving a warm, earthy, uniquely African smell in the air.On the interior plateau the altitude - Johannesburg lies at 1 694 metres - keeps the average summer temperatures below 30 degrees Celsius.

The area where IFSA is to be held,  was declared a World Heritage Site in 1999, and is known as the Cradle of Humankind. The 48 000 hectare area is of outstanding universal value as it contains a complex of palaeo anthropological sites, which have yielded some of the most valuable evidence, world wide, of the origins of modern humans. Embedded in the rocks, are the fossilized remains of hominids, animals, plants and pollen dating back over 3.3 million years.

Amongst the remarkable findings to have been made is the famous Mrs. Ples and Little Foot, a 3.3 million year old, almost complete, ape-man skeleton.

Wonder Cave
A natural wonder 2.2 million years old with formation 15m high, cave pearls, rimstone pools, stalactites etc. Enter by lift.

Sterkfontein Caves
This cave was home to the first adults fossil found in 1936, the most complete skull known as Mrs. Ples found in 1947, the first partial skeleton of early man showing that man walked upright, 500 fossil specimens of both adults and children, and discoveries are still being made....Restaurant and Museum on site.
